Sylvia Timmer went to her heavenly home on July 2, 2023 at the age of 93.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 10, 2023 at 11 AM at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease, MN.  Burial will follow at the Pease Cemetery.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Sylvia was born to Hans and Marie (Nyenhuis) Van de Riet on August 21, 1929 in Bogus Brook Township. She was the oldest of five children.  She attended Milaca District 9 through eighth grade, she then attended Milaca High School, graduating in 1948.  She was united in marriage to Lawrence Timmer on October 6, 1948.  From that marriage, they were blessed with six children.  They were faithful members of the Christian Reformed Church of Pease.

The couple bought her childhood farm and stayed there for the next 25 years.  She was a stay-at-home mom and helped with the farm work.  Lawrence went to school to be a salesman and worked at several places until 1973 when his job required him to move his family to Willmar, where they attended the Willmar Christian Reformed Church.  They started a storage business next to their home that she ran until 2007.  This allowed her to work at home.  She loved being a homemaker.  She loved raising flowers in her many flower beds.  She loved spending time with her family, whether at the lake, home for the holidays, or weekends.  She loved having friends over and playing cards.  At a young age she taught herself to play piano and enjoyed playing her favorite hymns.

In 2007, they moved back to the family farm in Milaca and lived there until February of this year when health issues required her to move to a nursing home.

She is survived by four children, Brad (Sally) Timmer of Milaca, Curt (Nancy) Timmer of Milaca, Kevin (Karen) of Sioux Center, Iowa, and Janelle (Mark) Volkers of Orange City, Iowa; sister, Judy (Chuck) Corwin of Caledonia, Michigan; brother, Harry (Ruth) Van de Riet of Hudsonville, Michigan; 13 loving grandchildren; and 26 wonderful great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Marie; husband, Lawrence; oldest daughter, Jacquelyn Van Ginkel; infant son, Larry; siblings, Joyce Toonstra, Leona Hubers, brothers-in-law, Rev. Martin Toonstra and Dale Hubers.
