Mary Lou Westphall was born May 25, 1936 in Benton County to Lawrence and Lucille (Walbridge) Smekofske. She grew up on a farm near Gilman and farmed her whole life. She also worked for one year at Fingerhut in St. Cloud. She was united in marriage to William Everette Westphall on January 16, 1954 in Gilman, MN. Mary loved farm life, planting her flowers and large garden.
She passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026.
She is survived by her children, Patrick (Jewel) Westphall of Anchorage, AK, Catherine (Larry) Zulawski of Foley, Cynthia (Robert) LaMont of Buffalo, Maria (Bruce) Eilers of Otsego and Tressia (Chris) Cox of Georgetown, IN; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Ardie Stowe of Buffalo, Rosie Fleck of Milaca, Margie Riedemann of Cambridge, Theresa Arkuszewski of St. Cloud, John Smekofske of Garrison and Chris Albright of Foley; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; parents, Lawrence and Lucille Smekofske; sister, Donna Rahm and grandson, William Westphall.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milaca. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers or donations, memorials are preferred to St. Mary’s Church in Milaca or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
