Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Mary Caroline Nikolas, age 93, will be held Friday, November 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Louis Bertrand Catholic Church in Foreston. Visitation will be one hour prior to services in the St. Louis Parish Hall. Interment will take place in Saint Louis parish cemetery.
Mary Caroline Nikolas passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Saint Otto’s in Little Falls. Mary was born August 5, 1931 in Benton County to Henry and Hildegarde (Reiser) Roehl. Mary attended country school through the 8th grade and proudly earned her GED in 1981. She married James Nikolas on August 8, 1950. They were married for 58 years. Together they farmed for 35 years, near Foreston, while raising eight children. She loved to cook and bake. When you came to visit Mary, you could always count on a pan of rice crispy bars and her “famous” two egg chiffon cake. After retiring, they enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, and get togethers with family and friends. Mary was a lifelong active member of Saint Louis Catholic Church, and was a member of the church choir for many years.
Mary is survived by her children, Jeanne Nikolas of Eden Prairie, Elaine (Mike) Judd of Milaca, Debra Gruszka of Sartell, Patricia (Nils) Fleming of Vadnais Heights, Sandra (John) Monroe of Brainerd, John Nikolas (friend, Deanna) of Foley, Jackie (Mike) Larson of Sauk Rapids, Kathy (Andy) Anderson of Elk River; grandchildren, Amy Anderson, Allison and Aaron Judd, Gregory and Michael Gruszka, Kate Hansen, Nikolas and Robert Fleming, Brandon Ruff, Jamie Luithle, Hanna Kiger, Nikole and Alexandra Anderson; great-grandchildren, Kylie Hlatky, Michael and Kellen Anderson, Claire Gruszka, Astrid and Henrik Fleming, Ben and Maddie Luithle, and Emma and Hunter Ruff; great-great grandchildren; Emma Hlatky and Jaxon Anderson; brother, Henry (Edna) Roehl.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents; five brothers and two sisters.
Mary was very much loved and will be greatly and forever missed.
