Mary Magdalene (Bauer) Kallinen, age 88, of Coon Rapids, MN passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, in Milaca, MN.
Mary was born on February 2, 1938, in Savo Township, South Dakota, to Oscar and Martha (Telin) Bauer. She married the love of her life, Merville Kallinen, on August 8, 1959. Together they built a life in Coon Rapids centered on family, friendship, and community.
Mary was an exceptional gardener who found great joy in tending her flowers and spending time outdoors. Her yard reflected the same care and beauty that she brought to every aspect of her life.
She treasured the friendships she built with her neighbors and loved being surrounded by people. Whether hosting lively potlucks, welcoming friends into her home, or simply enjoying good conversation, Mary had a way of making everyone feel comfortable and included. She also had a special place in her heart for the neighborhood children, always keeping an eye out for them, offering a helping hand, and making them feel welcome. Many remember her as someone who cared not only for her own family, but for the entire neighborhood.
Mary also had a creative spirit and an incredible eye for design. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, and decorating, always finding beauty in the ordinary. She loved antiques and had a talent for discovering hidden treasures. Her annual garage sales became neighborhood events, drawing friends and bargain hunters alike who knew they would find something special.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Merville; her parents, Oscar and Martha; and her siblings, Marvin, Shirley, and Carol.
She is survived by her sons, John (Karen) and James (Gina); her grandchildren, Jessica (Michael), Samantha (Nicholas), and Tristan; her great-grandson, Brycen; and her sisters, Cathie and Barbara, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
