Louise Spoelstra

Louise Spoelstra, 90, of Milaca, MN, died on October 27, 2026 at Emerald Crest Memory Care in Burnsville. She was born on June 16, 1936 to parents Albert and Sena Kamstra. She attended Milaca District 32 grade school, Pease Christian School (now Community Christian School) and Milaca High School. She took classes at St. Cloud State and attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. Louise taught second grade for four years in Oskaloosa, IA where she met Gerbun (Gerb) Spoelstra whom she married on December 30, 1958. She is survived by son Jeff Spoelstra (Laura), granddaughter Natalie and grandson Peter (Megan); daughter Connie Spoelstra and sister Karen Bouma (Duane) of Milaca. Louise was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Sena Kamstra, husband Gerb Spoelstra, granddaughter Pamela Spoelstra, brother and sister-in-law Warren and Carolyn Kamstra, and brother-in-law Robert Christensen.

After moving to Des Moines in 1958, Louise was a stay-at-home mom. Later she worked part-time at Farmer in the Dell Preschool for 17 years. She was a member of the Des Moines Christian Reformed Church (now called Crossroads Fellowship Christian Reformed Church). Through her church, Louise was very involved with helping Laotian refuges settle and acclimate in the Des Moines area and became “mom” to many.

Louise moved back to Milaca in 2008 to be closer to family and to reconnect with friends she grew up with. She also rejoined the Pease Christian Reformed Church.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Pease Christian Reformed Church, 117 West Main Street, Pease. Burial will follow at the Pease Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials may be made to the Pease Christian Reformed Church.
