Grace Louise Schmidt

Memorial services for Grace Schmidt, age 89, of Princeton, formerly of Milaca, will be held Friday, August 31, 2018 at 11 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Princeton. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Interment will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Princeton.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made on Grace’s behalf to Rum River Life Choices Centers in Princeton or Milaca.

Grace Louise Schmidt was born February 12, 1929 to John and Effie (Rannestad) Jacobs in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up and attended school in Robbinsdale, MN. Grace married Elwood Montcalm and they lived in New Hope and then Princeton, MN. She enjoyed going for walks, doing pottery and ceramics and playing cards- especially playing 500. They had two children, Richard and Renee, during this marriage. After Elwood’s death, Grace moved to Milaca. In 2005, she met Frank Schmidt and they were married on January 21, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca. During this marriage, she inherited a stepson, two step daughters-in-law, five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Grace passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Fairview Northland Regional Hospital.

She is survived by her husband Frank Schmidt of Princeton, MN, daughter Renee Montcalm of Virginia, MN, stepdaughter-in-law Sue Schmidt of Owatonna, MN, stepson John (Mary) Schmidt of Princeton, MN, along with five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, son, and brother.
