Cindy Schmatz

Cindy (Koppendrayer) Schmatz, age 76, of Princeton, passed away on March 4, 2026. Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be dearly missed by all.

Cindy will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to what she held most dear. She was dedicated to Trinity Lutheran Church for many years, serving coffee and her famous homemade caramel rolls. After purchasing her sister’s knitting shop, Cindy’s Knitting Room was a big part of her life, which she actively managed with her son until her passing. She was a fixture in the regional machine knitting community. Cindy also spent several years as a hostess at Frontier Steak House. There was rarely a family event or need that she missed.

She is survived by her son Troy (Angela) Bouma, grandchildren Samuel (Samantha) Ewald, Adam (Amanda) Ewald, Ava Ewald, great-grandchildren Auggie, Nora, and Lucy and siblings Fran DeVries, LeRoy (Carolyn) Koppendrayer, Don Knase, Marian (Dennis) Beier, Roger (Nancy) Koppendrayer, Pat (David) Gorham, Charlotte DeKraker, Kevin (Mary) Koppendrayer, Betsy Wergin, Susan Koppendrayer, brother-in-law Victor Spiczka, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dick Schmatz, parents Jake and Pearl Koppendrayer, brother Arlan Koppendrayer, sister Loni Knase, brother Baby Boy Koppendrayer, brothers-in-law John DeVries, Bill DeKraker, Richard Wergin, parents-in-law Raymond and Hazel Schmatz, siblings-in-law Marlys (Pete) Peterson, Mary Spiczka and Bonnie (Roland) Schultz, Vernon Schmatz and several nieces and nephews,

Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Princeton, with a visitation one hour prior. Memorials are preferred to Lakes and Pines Community Action Council (1700 Maple Avenue East, Mora, MN, 55051) or Princeton Pantry (120 N. Rum River Drive, Princeton, MN 55371).
