Carl Nelson

In 1959, Carl enlisted in the US Army based in Warrensville Station in Cleveland, OH.  On a weekend pass he was introduced to his future wife, Sharon Williams, and they were married on March 18, 1961.  Within four years there were blessed with four children.  After his Army service he remained in Cleveland and started his own business, Nelson’s Dry Cleaning Service.

Carl was an avid fisherman going on many outings with family and friends.  He enjoyed hunting including a few hunts in Wyoming.  Carl and Sharon had a Harley and would go out on leisurely rides many times with a close group of friends. He even made a trip to the bike rally in Sturgis, SD.  He also enjoyed snowmobiling with long time friends with a few trips out west.

In September 1968 he was offered and bought the family dairy farm near Pease, MN and moved his family there.  In 2008, Carl and Sharon were awarded the Century Farm Award.  He retired from dairy farming in 2001 and continued to farm crops for several years.  He moved to an assisted living facility in 2022, selling the family farm to a granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sharon (Williams) Nelson;  daughter, Darlynn (Scott) Gould;  sons, Daren (Valerie) Nelson and Darell (Kris) Nelson;  twelve grandchildren, Jared Gould, Megan (Josh) Paulson, Derek (Michon) Nelson, Jessica Zoerb, DesiRae (Brian) Feldhauser, Darrell (Nicole) Nelson, Austin Nelson, Samantha Nelson, Sawyer Nelson, Bryan (Yalanda) Nelson, Bradley Nelson, Rachel (Brian) McLalwain;  ten great-grandchildren;  sisters, Ellen Stanslaski and Laura (Harry) Moses;  brothers, Dennis (Judy) Nelson, Leslie (Kit) Nelson, Mike (Barb) Nelson, Alvin (Lynette) Nelson and Ernest Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Bertha Nelson;  sisters, Janice Nelson and Sandy Lang;  brother-in-law, Ron Stanslaski;  sister-in-law, Patti Nelson;  son, Dean Nelson and infant grandson, Christopher Nelson.
