Bonita “Bonnie” Adeline Meyer passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 4, 1941, on the family farm near Regal in Stearns County, Minnesota, to Quirin and Rita Stalboerger.
Raised on the family farm, Bonnie learned the values of faith, hard work, kindness, compassion, and service to others—values that became the foundation of a life devoted to caring for her family, her patients, and everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She attended a one-room country school at Spring Hill, Minnesota, before graduating from St. Francis High School in Little Falls, Minnesota. After high school, Bonnie worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Michael’s Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. Called to care for others, she attended nursing school in Brainerd, Minnesota, where she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
On May 18, 1963, Bonnie married Richard Meyer, beginning a partnership that would span 63 wonderful years. Together they built a home filled with faith, love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another. In 1967, they settled in Milaca, Minnesota, where Bonnie began what would become a remarkable nursing career at Milaca Area Hospital as a floor nurse. Following the hospital’s merger with Fairview, she continued serving patients at Fairview Hospital and Clinic in Princeton, Minnesota, where she cared for countless patients in several specialty clinics. Throughout every stage of her career, Bonnie earned the admiration of patients, families, physicians, and coworkers for her compassionate heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication.
For more than 50 years, Bonnie faithfully served the nursing profession with extraordinary compassion and dedication. Whether caring for patients in the hospital and clinic or volunteering as a hospice nurse within the community, she treated every person with dignity, kindness, and respect. Nursing was never simply a profession for Bonnie—it was her calling.
Bonnie was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milaca, where she generously volunteered in many church ministries. Her Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life and was reflected not only in her words, but in the quiet, selfless way she loved and served others. She lived her faith every day through countless acts of kindness, compassion, generosity, and humble service.
Above all else, Bonnie treasured her family. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family. Whether offering a listening ear, preparing a favorite meal, sharing words of encouragement, or simply being present, Bonnie had a remarkable gift for making others feel loved, valued, and at peace. Her love for her family was unconditional, and each knew they were deeply cherished.
Bonnie will be remembered as a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, boundless compassion, and unwavering love. She never sought recognition for the lives she touched. Instead, she found her greatest joy in quietly caring for others—her family, her friends, her neighbors, and the thousands of patients whose lives she made better through her compassion and gentle presence.
Although her family grieves her passing, they find comfort in knowing that Bonnie’s life was a beautiful reflection of God’s love. Her example reminds us that the greatest legacy we can leave is not measured by accomplishments, but by the love we give to others. Her kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her memory will remain a lasting blessing to those who were fortunate enough to call her wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, nurse, colleague, neighbor, and friend.
Bonnie is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Richard Meyer; her children, Lisa (Scott) Mitchell, Kathy (Brian) Hammill, and Jeff (Tina) Meyer; her beloved grandchildren, Marisa Mitchell, Jake Mitchell, Reed (Trent) Spry, Jillian Hammill, Erik Hammill, Jordyn (Ben) Pauly, Leah Meyer, Tanner Heller, Taylor Heller, and Laci Heller; great grand daughter Avery Adeline Pauly; her siblings, John (Alice) Stalboerger, Jane (Dave) Johnson, Doreen (Jim) Meyer, Glen (Pat) Stalboerger, and Deb Herzog; sisters-in-law Patty Stalboerger and Doris Stalboerger; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, treasured friends, former coworkers, and the countless lives she touched throughout her years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Quirin and Rita Stalboerger; her brothers, Jim Stalboerger and Tony Stalboerger; her brother-in-law, Tom Hertzog; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Stalboerger, nephew, John Meyer and niece, Tricia Murtley.
The Meyer family wishes to thank the dedicated caregivers at the Milaca Elim Meadows and St. Croix Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness.
