Betty Ann Droogsma

December 8, 1931 — January 9, 2018

 

Betty Ann (Hanenburg) Droogsma, age 86, of Milaca passed away Tuesday, January 9th at the Milaca Elim Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease with Pastor Michael Ten Haken officiating.  Interment will follow at Pease Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:30 PM on Friday at the church and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. will be all of Betty’s grandsons Nick Droogsma, Nate Droogsma, Rob Droogsma, Aaron Droogsma, Mitchell Droogsma, Sam Droogsma, John Gerritsen, Ryan Droogsma and Adam Droogsma.

Betty Ann Elsie was born December 8, 1931 in Bogus Brook township to William and Kathryne (Bouma) Hanenburg. She graduated 8th grade from Pease Christian School and Milaca Senior High Class of ’49. On July 17, 1953 Betty married Melvin in Pease, MN. They started farming with Fred and Mary Van De Riet and later purchased the farm.

She was a lifetime member of the Christian Reformed Church at Pease and active on many societies. She was a faithful supporter of Community Christian School of Pease. Betty loved indoor and outdoor activities with friends and family including cards, canoeing, snowmobiling, fast pitch softball and looked forward to the week at the lake with family. Betty had a talent with flowers, bread, and caramel rolls.
                                                                                                                                                                 
She is survived by her children Dale (Lois) Droogsma of Elk River, Duane Droogsma of Milaca, Darryl (Sue) Droogsma of Elk River, Kathy (Jim) Gerritsen of New Brighton, “George” (Shirley) Droogsma of Milaca, 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. Survived by siblings Sylvia Ruis, Harlin (Lois) Hanenburg, Eddie (Dorothy) Hanenburg, Dort (Doug) Brink all of Milaca and sister-in-law, Shirley Hanenburg.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, parents William and Kathryne Hanenburg, infant twin brothers and brothers, Marlin, Enno and Jerome.
