Anya Sahinen

December 15, 1999 — December 20, 2017

A memorial gathering for Anya Sahinen will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 1 - 4 PM at the Milaca Evangelical Free Church.  There will be a time for sharing memories of Anya beginning at 3:30 PM.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider memorials to her family.

Anya Sahinen, 18, of Milaca died unexpectedly at home on December 20th, 2017. Beloved daughter of Kaija and Justin McCarthy. Anya was born in St. Paul Minnesota and went to Elementary and Middle School in Becker Minnesota.

She was currently a senior at Milaca High School. She enjoyed snowboarding, shopping, art, fishing (especially with Grandpa Joe) as well as hunting her elusive wild turkey. She had a love of fashion and was excited about moving to New York City following graduation. Anya was also a tissue donor and her donations could save and heal many lives.

Anya is survived, and deeply missed, by her parents Kaija and Justin McCarthy; her siblings Sasha, Alissa, Stephanie, Christopher, Anissa and Michael. She also leaves behind her paternal grandparents, Jeannie and Joe Heckel, Donald and Patricia McCarthy, godmother Kari McCarthy and paternal grandmother Joy Haag. She is also survived by several loving aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Rick and Gini Sahinen, father Steven Haag and paternal grandfather Dale Haag.
