Irene Ellen Ekberg

Funeral service Irene Ekberg, age 91, of Milaca, will be held Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 11 AM at Milaca Alliance Church with Rev. Will Kosel officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 PM Wednesday at the Milaca Alliance Church and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Irene Ellen Ekberg was born May 14, 1925 in Milaca Township, MN to Adolph and Mary (Elving) Gustafson. She was united in marriage to Leroy Ekberg on May 07, 1949. They farmed in Bogus Brook Township for many years. Irene worked for the Mille Lacs County Auditor’s office and in the office at the Milaca Hospital. Irene enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and was best known by her family for her potato salad. Leroy and Irene have been members of the Milaca Alliance Church since 1950, where she served in many volunteer opportunities. She passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016 at her home at the age of 91 years old. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Craig) Anson of Milaca and son, Jamie (Jennifer) of Milaca; daughter-in-law, Vicky Ekberg (Joel Wrolstad); 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandsons; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; son, Gordy; brothers, Harold and Dave Gustafson.
