Memorial services for Sam Sears, age 94, of Milaca, will be held Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 11 AM at Milaca Alliance Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment with military honors will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca.
Sam Henry Sears was born on June 19, 1921 to George and Bertie (Denham) Sears near Galva, Iowa. After attending country school, he graduated from the Cherokee High School in Iowa in 1939. In May of 1942 he was drafted into the Army and served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps., with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Upon his discharge from the service Sam and his parents moved to the Monticello, Minnesota area to farm together. After a short marriage to Jean Hawser, he was united in marriage to Gladys Christensen on September 1, 1950. In 1968 Sam and Gladys bought a larger farm north of Gilman. Feeling the need to retire from farming, they moved to Milaca in 1986. They have lived here for the past 29 years. He was a member of the American Legion and attended the Milaca Alliance Church. Sam was a busy and hard worker during his working years and in his retirement years. He enjoyed remodeling the homes in which they have lived, also helping family members with their projects. He also enjoyed wood carving. As he grew older, he spent more time reading, besides his Bible he like to read western novels. While Sam was a resident of Milaca Elim Care for the past few month they celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary.
Sam is survived by his wife, Gladys of Milaca, daughters, Cheryl (Dan) Salter of Cherokee, Iowa, Nancy Bohlman of Milaca, Sandy (Charles) Loscheider of Shoreview, MN, brother, George (Janice) Sears of Rice, MN, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (Nora and Georgie), 2 brother-in-laws, two son-in-laws, and a nephew.
