Memorial services for Eugene Manthie, age 74, of Ogilvie, will be held Friday, October 30, 2015 at 1 PM at the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the Ogilvie Legion Honorguard.
Eugene Kenneth Manthie was born September 15, 1941 to William and Louise (Schaefer) Manthie in Milaca, Minnesota. He graduated from Ogilvie High School and later served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He worked as a block layer for many years and later retired from Westling Manufacturing. He was married to Betty for 27 years and to this union three children were born.
He loved his dog, Goldy, deer hunting, gardening, walking in the woods, cutting wood, sitting in the garage drinking beer in the summertime.
Eugene passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis.
Eugene is survived by his three children, Pamela Eggen (Wally) of Onamia, son-in-law, Eric Eggen of Milaca, Brenda (Teddy) Cowden of Ogilvie, and Kenneth Manthie of Ogilvie; eight grandchildren, Patrick Eggen, Tyler Eggen, Leah Eggen, Justin Cowden, Brandon Cowden, Shauna Cowden, Hunter Manthie, and Zackary Manthie; one great-grandson, Zayden Gerde; two sisters, Luella Nelson and Lucille Hallin; one brother, Albert (Grace) Manthie; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Frances, Betty, and Margaret; brothers, George, Gordon, Henry, Eddie, and baby William.
