Funeral services for Elmer “Al” Patrick Fox, Jr., age 78, of Milaca, will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 11 AM at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca with Fr. Jim Remmerswaal, OSC officiating. Interment will follow at Chase Brook Cemetery north of Foreston with military honors provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 and Siemers-Hakes VFW Post #10794. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM Wednesday at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Al died Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud with his children by his bedside. Al grew up in Minneapolis and entered the Army on his 17th birthday. He served as a heavy equipment operator in Alaska and Korea. He married Carol Halgren on January 18, 1957. Al worked for the City of Minneapolis and the Great Northern Railroad during the 1960’s. He moved his family to Milaca in 1970 and began a new career in sales. Al was a member of the Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 in Milaca. He enjoyed fishing with his son-in-law, Gary and daughter, Terry and spent many weekends with them at their cabin.
Al is survived by his children, Steve (Vicki) Fox of Milaca, Jim Fox of Milaca and Terry (Gary) Van Donsel of Foreston; ex-wife, Carol Fox of Milaca; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Verna Westman of Washington; brother, Earl “Bud” Fox of Fridley; also by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest son, Roy in 1994.
