He moved with his parents to rural Milaca in 1949, where they purchased a farm in the Riverside community. On June 6, 1953, he was united in marriage to Virginia Rose Lemmon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogilvie, Minnesota. They became the parents for four children and raised them on the farm. Farrell was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Milaca, where he served in various positions over the years. He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang in the church choir. On March 18, 1993, Farrell suffered a stroke, which affected his right side and his speech ability. Farrell and Virginia moved to Milaca in 1994. He entered the Milaca Elim Care and Rehab facility in October 2004, where he resided until his passing on Saturday, January 17, 2015.
