Wesley Elwood Phillips was born on May 5, 1920 to Norman and Ella (Sund) Phillips in Milaca, MN. He attended the Hayland Country School District 25 and graduated from Milaca High School in 1938. He graduated from the Twin Cities Barber School in 1939. He barbered with Vern Lundholm in Milaca for a number of years and later was self- employed for over 40 years. Wes was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving 4 yrs., stationed at Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas. While in the service he did some barbering and worked as a cook for a brief time. He was united in marriage to Jeanette Swanson on May 16, 1943. They had 2 sons, Lee and Tom. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Milaca for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren as well as painting and gardening. Wesley died on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Fairview Northland Hospital in Princeton at the age of 94 years 3 month and 22 days. He is survived by wife, Jeanette, son Tom and wife Nelle of Isle, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Lee, two brothers, Basil and Merlin and one sister, Marcia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday August 31, 2014 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Tim Schaekel officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour before the funeral service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Milaca. Casketbearers will be the Milaca American Legion Post members. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Arrangements with Peterson Johnson Funeral Home.
