Tillie Girard

March 9, 1917 — August 21, 2014

Tillie Girard was born on March 9, 1917 to John and Grace (Doorenbos) Freese in Raymond, MN. She moved with her family to the Milaca area where she attended school thru the 8th grade. Tillie was united in marriage to Alexander Girard on February 15, 1938 in Milaca, MN. Since her husband was a crop sharer the family moved 23 times which also included Milaca, Foreston, Bock and Pease. Tillie was along time member of the Milaca Alliance Church. She loved her church and helped out in many areas. She worked many years as a seamstress at Milaca Mills and also wrote articles for the Mille Lacs County Times representing Hayland Township. She was a long time resident of the Milaca High Rise where she made many jars of jam for resident and friends. Tillie enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking and sewing. Tillie passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Milaca Elim Home at the age of 97 years 5 months and 12 days. She is survived by son, Roger (Margaret) Girard of Bock, daughter, Arlyss (LuVern) Carpenter of Milaca, 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Dorothy (Ted) Poorker of Milaca, Carol (Virgil) Deuel of Oak Park and Judy (Gary) Eggen of Milaca and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Alex, parents, 6 brothers, 2 sisters, and two grandsons, James Girard and Doug Carpenter. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, August 25th at the Milaca Alliance Church with Rev. Don Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Arrangements with the Peterson Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca.
