Stephen Lansing Berglund

September 4, 1941 — July 12, 2013

Stephen Lansing Berglund, age 71, of Milaca, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center after battling several health issues for many years. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 18 at 10 AM at Milaca United Methodist Church with Pastor Joyce Slostad officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will follow at 2 PM on Thursday at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Little Falls, MN. Music will be provided by Donna Angermeier. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca. Steve Berglund was born on September 4, 1941 to Dorothy Ann Elizabeth (Johnson) Berglund and Milton Russell Berglund in Redwood Falls, MN. He attended grades K-1 until the family moved to Willmar, MN in 1947 where he attended Garfield Elementary for grades 2-3. They then moved to Morris, MN in 1950 where he graduated in 1959. Steve attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN for a short time before moving to Minneapolis to work. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1961 and became a Hospital Corpsman (Medic). He served in Portsman, VA, Camp Lejeune, NC, Rota Spain, Hospital ship U.S.S. Reposa, South China Sea, Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in October, 1967. During this time he married Mary Ann Walajcki. They had one daughter Marlaina Elizabeth Berglund Kline, who now resides in South St. Paul, MN. Steve married his present wife Jenny (Angermeier) Berglund on August 29, 1981. They lived in Milaca for one year before moving to Garrison, MN near Mille Lacs Lake. While in Garrison, Steve opened an antique shop. He loved living in “the woods” where he had a faithful black lab named Smokey. He had several hobbies which included coin collecting and watching the MN Twins and Vikings. In 2002, they moved back to Milaca. Steve is survived by his wife, Jenny of Milaca; daughter, Marlaina Kline of South St. Paul; step-sons, Dean (Donna) Angermeier of Milaca and Randy (Melissa) Angermeier of Watertown, SD; nine grandchildren and several cousins. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and step-brother.
