Daniel Herman Smith, 90, of Milaca, Sun City West and formerly Edina, went to be with the Lord on Thursday evening, April 5th, 2012. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:30 AM at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease with Rev. Dallas Smith and Rev. David Smit officiating. Interment will take place at Roselawn Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 PM on Friday, April 13, 2012 at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease. Music will be provided by Dorothy Brink, Shirley Geurkink and Marian Smit. Military honors will be provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 & Siemers-Hakes VFW Post #10794. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Casketbearers will include Dan. J. Smith, Shane Smith, Eric Robbert, Adam Robert, Gregg Robbert and Pedro Martinez (Dylan). Daniel Herman Smith was born March 5, 1922. Dan served his country in WWII as part of the Army Air Corp and was stationed in the south Pacific. He went on to graduate from Calvin College and then completed his MSW from the University of Michigan. He served as a social worker for Lutheran Social Service and the St. Louis Park school district before retiring in 1987. Dan lived his life honoring the Lord. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He loved his river home on the Rum River in Milaca and catching fish. He and his wife Susie spent winters at their home in the warmth and sunshine of Sun City West, AZ. Dan is preceded in death by his first wife Arlene; parents, Henry and Susie; seven brothers; one sister; and step son, T.R. Hoff. He is survived by his wife, Susan Wood Smith; his children, Susan (Bob) Metoxen, Sharon (Gregg) Robbert, Daniel Jon (Melissa) Smith and Debra (George) Veth; step-daughter, Aubrey (Pedro) Martinez; 10 grandchildren, Shane, Eric, Adam, Anja, Samantha, Micah, Teagan, Dylan, Merick and Logan; brother, Maynard (Fanny) Smith; sister-in-laws, Pearl and Elsie Smith; also by many nieces and nephews.
