Memorial service for Donald Patten, age 80, of Milaca, formerly of Princeton, will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11 AM at Milaca United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Woo Jae Im officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Military honors will be provided Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 and Siemers-Hakes VFW Post #10794.
Donald Guy Patten was born on July 22, 1931 to Guy and Mabel Patten. He was united in marriage to Mary (Bonkowske) Patten on September 25th 1954. They had 4 children; Jackie (Patten) Bassett, Tim Patten, Daniel Patten and Kathy Schold. He was also the proud grandfather to Dani Patten, Joe Patten, Tema Jessup, Dawn Bassett, Matthew Bassett, Michael Patten, Nicole Patten, Amanda Brown, Brandon Nelsen. Great grandchildren are Sienna Patten, Parker Patten, Katrina Brown, Ronnie Brown, Joe Jessup, Kayla Jessup and Chelsea Nelsen. He has one surviving brother, Wayne Patten.
Donald was accomplished in various careers with Patten TV and Appliance Repair in Princeton, Sears Catalog Merchant Princeton, Co-op Hardware in Princeton, MN, Don and Syls Plumbing Princeton, MN and Denton Construction Mechanics in Lanexa Virginia. He left us on January 30 at the Veteran’s Hospital in St Cloud, MN after a recent diagnosis of cancer.
Donald was known for his patience, willingness to help friends/family and a lover of education, most of it in self pursuits of knowledge. He instilled in his children to work hard in life for what they wanted and that your word is your bond. He was honest in his dealings with others and enjoyed finding humor wherever he went. He was a loving father and made sure his loved ones were well cared for.
